Like the large river takes it’s beginning from the little brooks the Chair of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling of Kherson National Technical University has begun the activity from the small consultative point (January 1957) which was created for external students that worked on a Cotton Mill and studied in institutions of Kyiv, Odesa and Donetsk. The founders of chair were wonderful methodists, unsurpassed lecturers Marchenko Larysa Kuzmivna, Karlenko Vadym Ivanovych, Malyk Yakiv Hryhorovych, Merzliakova Mariia Andriivna. The kind organizer, a person with a sensitive soul Merzliakova Mariia Andriivna was the first chair head of higher mathematics, Ph.D. of Physics and Mathematics Sciences. Then the chair was headed by Burykin A.A., Kreknin V.A., Podat M.K., Kriuchkovskyi V.V. From 1993 and to present days Bardachov Iurii Mykolaiovych is the chair head of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling.

Feeling the shortage of highly skilled workers, the chair constantly spares serious attention to the scientific increase of its employees. In the period from 1974 to 1991 dissertations for Ph.D. were defended by Kriuchkovskyi V.V., Bardachov Yu.M., Podat M.K., Sokurenko E.V., Podat N.M., Andreitsev A.Yu. The dissertations for Ph.D. in Engineering were defended by Tuluchenko H.Ya. and Starun N.V. in 2001, Malomuzh T.V. in 2004, Tsybulenko O.V. in 2005. In 2012 Astionenko I.O. defended the dissertation for Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics Sciences. The dissertations for scientific degree of Doctor of Science in Engineering were defended by Bardachov Iu.M. in 1992, Tuluchenko H.Ya. in 2008, Kriuchkovskyi V.V. in 2012.

The Chair of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling is the smithy of not only scientific workers but also leaders of all structures of the university. Senior Lecturers Malyk Ya.H. worked as a Dean of General Technical Department. Senior Lecturers Matvienko A.M. worked as a Chief of Educational Part and a Dean of General Technical Department. Dr. Sc. in Engineering, Professor Kriuchkovskyi V.V. worked as a Dean of Technological Faculty, pro-rector of Experimental and part-time forms of education, a Dean of Department of International Economic Relations. From 2004 Starun N.V. Ph.D. in Engineering, Associate Professor worked as Head of Educational Department. Now she is the Pro-Rector of Educational Activities. Ph.D. in Engineering, Associate Professor Malomuzh T.V. is the Head of International Relations Department.

In March 1996 Bardachov Iurii Mykolaiovych was elected as the Rector of Kherson National Technical University and works on this post to present days.

The testing of students’ knowledge in mathematics which was conducted by Department of Education and Science of Ukraine shows that the Chair of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling of Kherson National Technical University has high scientific and methodical potential for the preparation of highly skilled professionals and it is among leading Ukrainian institutions which gives strong and reliable knowledge to students.
